VENTURIST

Observatoire Chronométrique+ Certified Chronometer

The Story

The Venturist concept and the fact that this watch would be called ‘Venturist’ came two years after the moment we decided to release a watch with TIMELAB’s Chronometric+ Observatory certification. It was not until the summer of 2018 that Tom made the first sketches of a watch that he wanted to fit in with the different facets of the OC + certification. He then enlisted the help of designer Matthieu Allègre who transformed his sketches into the watch as it is today.

Finally and not unimportant; the Venturist answers the question whether a very small brand like ours could be the first in the world to achieve OC+ certification with a brand new watch.

Hitting the sweet spot

A genuine tool watch

With its certified chronometric precision, certified anti-magnetic properties and highly legible dial, the Venturist is a sturdy yet refined tool watch for those who dare to venture.

Ideal for everyday use or under rugged conditions, the Venturist’s case is made of high quality 316L stainless steel, measures 41 mm in diameter, the sweet spot of case sizes, and sits only 10,5 mm high. The case has a polished case band and faceted lugs. Both the slim bezel and the top of the lugs have a satin brush finish to gain minimal attention.

The legibility of the matte black dial, as seen through a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, is excellent in both day and night, with Super-LumiNova BGW9 pigment on all Rhodium platedRhodium is a rare and precious element that can be 10 to 25 times more expensive than gold. Rhodium is a member of the platinum group of metals and is silver-hued, highly reflective and does not tarnish or corrode. It is harder than gold and is highly durable. hands and hand-applied hour markers. As the name suggests the Super-Luminova phosphorescent pigment emits a blue-green glow by night and is white in daylight conditions.

The Venturist comes with a Genuine Shell Cordovan leather strap and a black NATO strap.

Under the hood

The Venturist is powered by Lebois & Co’s automatic, COSC certified, caliber LC-201 (Sellita based) with 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement, which is visible through a clear caseback, is adjusted in 5 positions and is decorated with Geneva stripes (Côtes de Genève), perlage, diamond cutting and blued screws.

The Venturist is Observatoire Chronométrique+ certified on chronometry, ‘on-the-wrist’ performance, water resistance, anti-magnetism and power reserve.

The more comprehensive Chronometer Certification

Observatoire Chronométrique+

Every individual Venturist is tested in Geneva for 21 days in order to receive the ‘Observatoire Chronométrique+’ certificate, a guarantee issued by independent Swiss horology laboratory TIMELAB. The Chronometric+ Observatory certification certifies that a watch complies with the requirements drawn up by the laboratory and authorises it to bear the prestigious and official title of “chronometer watch” in accordance with the internationally recognised ISO/CEI 3159 standard. The guarantee covers the finished watch and extends to other aspects relating to its reliability such as water resistance (ISO 22810), magnetic resistance (ISO 764), power reserve and performance on the wrist, in conditions representative of modern life.

Anti-Magnetism

The magnetic resistance test is performed by applying a magnetic field to the watch in 3 different positions. After applying the magnetic field the accuracy is measured to…

Chronometer

During the chronometer test each watch head is individually tested for 17 consecutive days, in 5 different positions, at 3 different temperatures (8°C, 23°C and 38°C)…

To ensure a watch is water resistant according to the ISO 22810 standard each watch has to withstand 3 different tests. During the ‘air overpressure test’ the watch…

Power Reserve

To test the power reserve, the watch is fully wound and placed into a device that is specifically designed to measure the power reserve of mechanical watch movements…

Meet René Peeters: Venturist owner and investor in Lebois & Co

Where there’s adventure, that’s where I want to be

Seeing René Peeters in his business suit, you may not expect someone who is drawn to extreme situations. Think lonely, snowy mountain peaks thousands of meters high. Where survival comes down to skills, common sense and the quality of your gear.

It’s 5 in the morning, the altitude is 3000 meters, the sun rises over the icy peeks. You drink your tea at minus 30 degrees Celsius, while the sunlight warms your face. Around you: just the mountains, complete silence and utter solitude. It’s moments like these…
